HCG Maintenance Phase

The HCG diet maintenance phase is started right after the patient takes their last HCG injection. This part the HCG diet is part of Dr. Simeons’ original protocol and is designed to help patients boost their daily caloric intake with the right foods so they can maintain their weight loss without yo-yoing back up. And that’s the thing about diets in general; they are doomed to fail if the dieter does not adopt a healthy lifestyle after the diet. A healthy lifestyle would consist of eating mostly vegetables, fruits and non-processed foods, regular exercise and regular sleep.

The patient by the maintenance phase has achieved losing pounds and inches. They should be motivated to keep it off by all the positive compliments they are receiving from friends, family and co-workers. Regular exercise and sleep are self-explanatory but what kind of diet should one adopt to keep a healthy life-style? I recommend a diet of whole food vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts and seeds and stay away from MSG and free glutamates. So this means if one works, like during the HCG diet, they must prepare their meals and snacks during their work day and have a healthy dinner planned as well. This is hard at first but easier and more enjoyable as time goes on. Looking for recipes online that might suit our taste buds, shopping for the ingredients and cooking is fun. Sharing nutritious meals with loved ones is also fun and educational as others learn about eating healthy as a choice and not as a restrictive diet. A typical day’s diet for me goes something like this…

Breakfast
Steel cut rolled oats, raisins, cinnamon, chia seeds, banana and almond milk.

Snack
Some fruit and/or Trader Joe’s whole wheat Middle Eastern flat bread with roasted red pepper hummus.

Lunch
Roasted red potato cut with salt and a little olive oil mixed and tossed on a baking sheet (baked at 450 degrees for about 25 – 30 min).

Salad of mixed greens, tomato, cucumbers, balsamic vinaigrette and topped with avocado, walnuts and goat cheese.

Trader Joe’s whole wheat Middle Eastern flat bread with roasted red pepper hummus.

Snack
Small mix of raw almonds and roasted sunflower seeds.

Dinner
Vegan cassoulet with white beans.

Trader Joe’s whole wheat Middle Eastern flat bread with roasted pepper hummus.

Dessert
Blueberries

As you can see there are no processed foods mentioned except Trader Joe’s whole wheat Middle Eastern flat bread, hummus and the goat cheese and all three have no sugar or MSG added. Everything else is in its whole food state and that’s something our bodies will appreciate. A daily healthy diet with regular exercise and regular sleep will keep us looking trim, feeling great and ward off diseases.
